What to document
Good quote notes help separate generator size, transfer equipment, fuel work, placement, panel changes, permit needs, and maintenance responsibilities.
- Write down what failed or became urgent during the last outage.
- List must-run loads and how long they need power.
- Check whether the electrical panel has space or known issues.
- Note whether natural gas is available or propane storage may be needed.
- Ask about maintenance, exercise cycles, battery replacement, and winter operation.
When to request quotes
Request quotes when outages threaten comfort, safety, sump pumps, food storage, medical devices, remote work, or finished basement protection. Earlier planning usually gives more time to compare scope instead of buying in a rush after a storm.
