What to document
Good quote notes help separate generator size, transfer equipment, fuel work, placement, panel changes, permit needs, and maintenance responsibilities.
- List must-have loads first: refrigerator, freezer, sump pump, furnace blower, medical devices, internet, lights, and garage access.
- Then list comfort loads: central air, microwave, laundry, range, water heater, and home office equipment.
- Ask whether large loads will start at the same time or be managed in priority order.
- Tell the installer about finished basements, sump pump reliance, medical equipment, travel, pets, and remote work.
- Request a scope that clearly states what is included and excluded.
When to request quotes
Request quotes when outages threaten comfort, safety, sump pumps, food storage, medical devices, remote work, or finished basement protection. Earlier planning usually gives more time to compare scope instead of buying in a rush after a storm.
